I have NO clue as to why Drug Test Help popped up on my screen. For one thing, I've never taken a drug test, and for another, I'd be able to pass without a problem.

Speaking of drugs, is that why AfroKen is so popular? That's about the only thing that explains it, to me...

Can I just say how much I DO NOT CARE about the Kennedys? They're not attractive, they're not tragic, they're just stupid powerhungry knobs with no self-control.

And I'm a cranky bitch. How do you do.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 8:18 PM |

I am entirely too impatient. Mix this with my tendancy to procrastinate and you have a recipie for disaster.

I want to be DONE with this part. I want no more dog crap, I want no more nasty smelly little dogs (anyone want a bichon frise that pees on herself and thinks that the best way to get attention is to crap in her cage?), I want resonable hours and a better wage.

Now that you're all done laughing at that last part... I know I haven't yet paid my dues -- after all, I've only collected two paychecks (why it feels like I've been working for three or four months I don't know), what sort of investment of my time is that? Well, I'll tell you: after working by myself for -most- of that time, after all of the shit and the piss and the food and the aching feet and the lost sleep, after discovering that if you can pick it up with one hand and/or it does not have the potential to kill you it's not a dog, I know that being a TA is NOT where I want to be. I don't want to do this any more. I don't, I don't, I don't. I want to be a tech, because that's where the interesting things happen. I want to be a tech because they don't have to clean anything unless it's immediately necessary. I want to be a tech because I'm -bored-, dammit.

I just want to be where I want to be. I'll see if I can stick it out 'til Christmas. If I can plug away 'til next summer, goody, but I'm only going to aim for the end of this semester. Taking it in small chunks is probably the only way I'm gonna make it through this annoying portion of things.

I'm hungry and I still need to clean up around here and I need to go to bed and I just want to go _home_. *Whinewhine*

Uh... Is it just me, or do dos servers require a proprietary software (i.e. Windows)? Or am I confused, and they're actually subtly marketing/advocating the use of *nux/BeOS on servers? Or should I just focus on the silly 'Isn't that our drinking fountain?' 'Oh, you mean Hydra (The Destroyer)!? Whoooo!' part of things?
Posted by: Shannon M.: 9:40 PM |

Okay, I have to go straighten up. And eat. And set the alarm for 6 am.

I'm gonna be -so- fucking useless tomorrow...

And speaking of Lain... I went over to my house, last night, and discovered that Ev hadn't checked the mail (because he lacked a key, not because he didn't want to). I checked it and lo and behold, included with my Replay magazine was a preview copy of Shonen Jump. Yes, Japan's premiere manga serial magazine is coming to America! *Bouncebounce* And you can subscribe for the ridiculously low price of 20.00 for 12 issues, which is pretty good as it'll be going for five bucks a pop on the newsstand.

The other cool thing? You can enter to win a trip for two to Japan. I know you need a eight-digit code from the preview copy; perhaps you can find one at a comic or anime/comic store near you. I believe it's also possible to get one from the site itself.

S1m0ne is Idoru without the cyberpunk. I can't decide if I want to see it or not...

And... EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! *Bouncybounce* I HAVE CORALINE! (Here's a secret: pick it up in hardback at Borders, in the YA section. Why? 'Cause in the YA section, it's going for 15.99, whereas in the adult SciFi section it goes for 25. I have no idea what's up with that, but it saved me nine bucks, so. *Shrug*)

I also have Perdido Street Station. Whee!
Posted by: Shannon M.: 6:53 PM |

Well, S1m0ne looks like it'll also be funnier and lack the whole 'dead people' part of things, too.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 6:54 PM |

I also got paid today, which was very, very nice. This paycheck was even better than my first one, which was a pleasant surprise -- I was thinking it'd be smaller.

For anyone that's interested, today's Wrath Of God (on The History Channel) is all about the '64 quake. It'll be rerun this afternoon; check your local listings.

*Giggle* I took the What Breed Of Dog Are You? test again, and this is what I got:

German Shepherd
No bones about it, you're a loyal, hard-working German Shepherd. Dedicated and always low-maintenance, people flock to you — they know they can count on you to get any job done, and done well. That focus and attention to detail spans from your personal to your professional life, too. Although you can be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to the projects you tackle, you still manage to keep cool and laid-back in social situations. You get a kick out of the little things and thrive when you're constantly busy and on-the-go. Easygoing and unpretentious, you don't need constant pampering and reassurance. A genuine, carefree pup, you're a true-blue friend, employee, and partner. Woof!

Last time, I was a basset.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 9:58 AM |

Bwaha! I kinda don't think so, somehow.

Matthew McConaughey
Yee haw! Congratulations, y'all — Texas charmer Matthew McConaughey is your celebrity match. Blond and beautiful, this laid-back good ol' boy has a melt-your-heart smile and soulful eyes. He's a fast-talker who sees himself as a salesman — doubt he'd have to try very hard to sell himself to you! You can't resist his down-home twang or rugged good looks, not to mention his wild side. This bongo drum-playing bad boy likes to live life to the fullest, something the two of you have in common. He's all about living "in the now," a spontaneous, easy-going dude with plenty of moxie. So what if he's a little dazed and confused? You just know you could make him sit up and pay attention. Good luck!

I think that Though The Earth Be Moved is out of print. Phoo. It's a very good documentary about the '64 quake, with interviews, news footage, radio broadcasts, and stills from the people that lived through those hellish minutes.

William Bennett and C. Delores Tucker renew their calls against rap music, this time joined by U.S. Senators Joseph Lieberman and Sam Nunn. Examples of the group's targets include: Wu-Tang Clan, The Notorious B.I.G., Geto Boys, The Dogg Pound, Tupac Shakur, Gravediggaz, Cypress Hill, Lords of Acid, Black Crowes, and Blues Traveler.

Um, since when is Blues Traveler a rap group? True, I haven't heard -everything- they've put out, but if I remember correctly, they're kind of a folk-rock-blues outfit.

This inanity brought to you by people in positions of power and PCJM, who linked to Banned Music. And you know, even though I don't -like- rap or NüMetal, I don't care if anyone else listens to it. And I will happily defend the rights of other people to produce and listen to it, with the exception of white-power/aryan-power type stuff. That falls under the category of promoting nasty, nasty things, which I am not at all for.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 12:40 PM |

Well, while you're all being outraged and annoyed by the banned music, I'm off to the post office in hopes that my mailbox will A) NOT hold someone else's mail, since 112348 is below mine, and B) have either a key or a slip that will allow me to pick up my KritterCam!

...and I may go by the bank, too.

Well, no camera, but I do have two new colors of nail polish and one new lipgloss. I generally don't like lipglosses. They're either too light, too gritty, taste or smell awful, or aren't opaque enough for my taste. The number of glosses in my makeup collection can be counted on one hand. This may change, however, now that I have discovered Sinful Colors' lipglosses.

I found them at my local Fred Meyers (a Kroger affiliate); the standard sizes running 2.99 and the mini-glosses going for 1.99. Like I said, I'm not a big lipgloss fan, so I decided I'd try one of the mini-glosses. The tray of minis at the store didn't -quite- correspond to the full line of the standard-sized colors, but I managed to find a small version of the color I wanted to try: 'Plummy'.

When I got home, I checked it out -- it doesn't really taste like anything; the gloss doesn't seem to come off on the tongue (though it does tend to come off on everything else...); it has a tolerable scent (mostly sweet with a hint of vanilla); and while Plummy is a little more pink than I thought it was going to be, I think I can live with it.

There are also clear, flavored glosses offered for those that like that sort of thing. All in all, I'm planning on picking up the lemon, a full-sized Plummy, and maybe a couple of other colors.

The only thing I have to say to the narrator of The Wrath Of God is that it's ChEE-nah, not cheh-nah. Eee, eee, eee. And it's also not chee-ay-nah. Chee-nah. Like cheet-ohs, only different.

Unfortunately, there's no picture (yet), but at least you can preorder Lain in her jammies.

Anyone wanna swap places and responsibilities for a while? I have two annoying little yappy dogs to look after, as well as a huuuuuuge house complete with lake view and hot tub. And cable. Digital cable, even.

And a raging desire to be anywhere but here. My mother, grandparents, and auntie Kel are all at the sea-side. Where I am not. And I have tomorrow off, too.

I -did- get my hair cut today, which is nice, and paid off my dentistry tab. I have to go back next Tuesday, first thing in the morning, to get yet ANOTHER filling. Which is, of course, all my fault because I HATE FLOSSING. At least I only have one to go after this next one...

Shallow, shallow, shallow! Heh.

I know I'm being whiny, and that I have no reason to be given that I got to go to Texas _and_ basically screwed around for most of the summer, but... I dunno. I just feel tired and ready to do something else.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 9:35 PM |

I miss people. I miss Mme. Jean, and I miss Suzy, and I miss my animals who are marginally less annoying if for no other reason than they sort-of pay attention to me when I tell them to be quiet. I miss my family.

Also? A steady paycheck is not a guarantee of immediate and blissful solvency. At least I get paid on Friday.

I'm kind of babbling aimlessly, aren't I? I don't know what else I can do, at the moment. I did make a discovery about myself, today: I'm spiffy in a canoe, but suck in a rowboat. The people for whom I'm housesitting have a little punt that I've been dying to take out, only it's been rainy and windy. Today, it was dry and still for the ninety minutes it took me to bail approximately 12.5 gallons of water out of the bottom of it, find a lifejacket that fit, and go out on the water. It didn't take me long to figure out that I'm no good with two paddles. If nothing else, aside from some difficulty in getting back onto dry land (only one foot got wet), I had a rather uneventful trip.

Yesterday evening, a banded (or belted) kingfisher perched on the end of one of the docks for about two hours, which was neat.

I should have my camera tomorrow, too. Sometime in the near future, anyhow.

I really have to remember to go to ACS and ask about canceling my account. Oops.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 9:48 PM |

"Paracide", brain, not 'parasite'. Although it -is- amusing to think of the Lizzie Borden case as having parasites, since I'm sure there were people there just looking to make a buck.

I'm gonna go mess with Sim skins. G'night, all.

I went to the post office yesterday, to see if my camera had arrived yet (it hadn't). magine my surprise when I opened my normally-empty mailbox to discover it stuffed full of stuff! A lot of it was advertisements, which I drop into the recycle bin, but the big prizes were a Le Club Des Créateurs De Beaute catalog, a letter from my senator, and a hyuuuuuge The Right Stuf catalog.

The Right Stuf, annoying spelling and all, is this massive anime/manga catalog put out once a year. I must have ordered the thing over a year ago, and subsequently totally spaced having done so.

The CCB catalog is a makeup and skin care catalog, and they, too, have a website. The catalog is pretty spiffy -- everything in it is half-off for one's first order, plus you get two free gifts (one of which you get only if you spend thirty dollars or more; the other is any product in the catalog that you want but may not be able to afford), which is kinda nice. I've been picking out things to order and have to pare down my choices -- with shipping it's like 117 dollars. Oops.

I don't know what the letter from my senator says, yet. I've been distracted. I also have a dentist's appointment, so I have to go. Bleah.

My brother just sent me an email to tell me that Tool will be here 09/30/02.

I think I know what I want for my birthday.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 12:50 PM |

Speaking of tickets... I have a ticket to go see The Vagina Monologues. Not alone, no -- and not with the Opera Women that I've gone to see operas with, either. No, I'm going to see TVM with...my co-workers. The majority of whom are A) older than myself, B) married/attached, and C) mothers of human children.

I haven't told my mother about it, either.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 12:56 PM |

You wanna know something? I haven't gotten to go to the seaside yet this year. My family all went down weekend before last, and my family minus my brother are all headed down there tonight. With my aunt Kel, whom I thought I was going to be able to spend time with on my days off.

And classes start next Monday, too, which sucks. I'm hoping that I can get my classes paid for and my books picked up on Saturday, or maybe even Friday...

I want/need a nap. Sigh.
