People, people, people! For crying out loud, if your meds aren't working for you, or are causing unpleasant side-effects, CALL YOUR BLOODY DOCTOR AND GET THEM TO CHANGE YOUR PRESCRIPTION. Duh.

This message brought to you by, apparently, one of a half-dozen Americans for whom anti-depressants actually work.

In the People-Cocooning/Dessicating Bugs Of The Pacific-Northwest episode of The XFiles, Scully looks an awful lot like my aunt Kelly, but with red hair. Particularly when she's first being hauled aloft in the tree-swing/platform to check on the first big cocoon.

Sims News: PlayStation 2 and The Sims Unleashed (wherein it appears one can get a german shepherd puppy, aww!).

TSU link from Pop Culture Junk Mail, PS2 from the press release.

*Grumple* I'm not gonna whine. I'mnotI'mnotI'mnotI'mnot.

Well, maybe just a _little_... Viridian got to see Neil Gaiman and I didn't. And TMBG were at PacBell park for some sort of baseball-related Battle Of The Bands (and won!) and I didn't get to see them, either.

...And there's nothing good on TV, either.

I'm developing a love/hate relationship with network TV. On the one hand, I promptly fell in love with Dr. Bug and The Tall British Gothy Morgue Guy from Crossing Jordan, I didn't mind Fear Factor all that much (though Fox's demographic wonks were hard at work, choosing females with big boobs, small shirts, and no bras to play), but on the other hand, I still hate the news and soaps.

...Louie Anderson currently hosts Family Feud. It runs, up here, at 1:00 AM. Why am I watching this? Because I am too lazy to get up and swap out Rear Window for something else.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 1:21 AM |

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate coming into things in the middle? And how most shows that I suddenly discover usually go down the tubes within a year of my discovering them?

We'll all just pretend I hate Crossing Jordan and Houston Medical and plan on never ever watching them ever again, okay?

Also, my father only gets four and a half channels out here. Fox, NBC, ABC, HSN, and UPN, only it's snowy and soundless.

His house is _dangerous_. On the outside, it's two stories tall. -Inside-, it's two and a half. The master bedroom (or what passes for the master bedroom) is half-way up from the second story. This means that there's a narrow stairway up to the platform where the bed, his leventy-million videos, a couple dozen books, and stereo/TV/surround-sound system/VCR are. On the second floor is the bathroom, multitude of tools, another bed (just like mine at home, though probably not as squeaky), and a makeshift clothing table consisting of plywood across sawhorses, and a ladder. Fortunately, none of the junk up here jeopardizes your life if you're on your way to the bathroom. If you're trying to -hurry- down the stairs, that might be another story.

Speaking of stairs... Grah. The man is as bad as I am when it comes to -finishing- things, so you can -imagine- what the interior of this place looks like. The stairs are narrow, relatively steep, and lack a handrail on either side. The reason they lack one on the wall-side is because there's no sheetrock on the walls. There is also no plastic covering the insulation on the wall. This sounds like severe itching waiting to happen, but if you go down them turned a little sideways, you won't brush up against the fluff that's sticking out. I have no idea why there's no railing on the drop-off side. I think the argument was something along the lines of not being able to get furniture/plumbing fixtures up and down. I don't know, precisely, but I think it's hooey.

The kitchen/dining area is fairly nice, though -- drywalled, textured and painted, but the floor isn't finished. Dad ran out of hardrock maple flooring before he finished the floor, but he'll probably be able to get some more. Back to the second and a half floor, for a minute -- the ceiling here is finished, but out over the main part of the second floor, it's all R75 Pink Panther insulation held up by clear plastic stapled to the roof trusses. The heating system is in full view of God and Everyone, but at least you won't trip over the ducting.

Bah. I wanna go home. At least -there- if I get seriously hurt (i.e. falling down the stairs), it'll be because I tripped over my own feet and/or pushed down them by the dog, rather than falling through the split/loose stair tread, or misstepping and falling through the visqueen onto the air compressor, or falling down the stairs in the dark on the way to the bathroom...

So if I suddenly drop off the radar, you know why.

I take that back -- he gets _five_ and a half. He also gets PBS.

One last blurb/plug, and I'm gonna go to sleep: Advil Liquigels are hideously expensive (as are most painkillers -- good GOD, what is -wrong- with this country that pharmeceutical companies actively take -advantage- of the fact that most people will pay whatever they can afford for pain relief?), but they _work_ and fast on my sinus headaches. Or they have so far, and without making me nauseated, which is nice.

So, yeah. Gotta go check the mail tomorrow, and while I'm in the area, I'm going to grab my zipdrive and all my disks in hopes of finding my Mercy, Grace, And The Big Office Building pieces. Good night, or good morning, or whatever.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 1:56 AM |

Hmph. Found my M/G stuff -- it wasn't exactly as exciting as I recalled it being. Not that I -hate- it, mind you -- it's just not as...exciting as I recall. *Shrug*

Also, Brad Pitt without a shirt is really not high on my list of favorite things to see before bed.

I signed up to sponsor Miss Alli in the Blogathon. I can't do very much, but every little bit helps. I'll probably find two or three more to sponsor, if I can find someone whose writing I like... *Rolls eyes* Of course, if any of the three or four people that read this blog want/need a sponsor, lemme know.

You know, I keep sayin' it, and it keeps bein' true: I have GOT to get a friggin' job.

Unfortunately, it ain't gonna happen unless I get off my pudgy butt and, like, -do- something about the whole not-having-one part.

...I need some itty-bitty ice trays. I think dad has some around here somewhere...

This is Alaska. Why is it so bloody -hot- in here?
Posted by: Shannon M.: 12:20 AM |

Guh. Why do people have sinuses? Whywhywhy? *Whine* M'head hurts, not enough to be debilitating, but enough to be annoying.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 12:35 AM |

I -finally- get most of LA Confidential. Good movie, but -so- screwed up on so many levels...

Also, two new pieces over at FicBits: the continuance of K&A Want A Puppy (A Solstice Interlude) and a short little bit of Istvan and Lucian enlightening the next generation of Murphy's Agents. Enjoy, Or Something.

*Blinks at NightLine* What the hell is up with the slo-mo 'fountain' of blood in the version of GTAIII they're bellyaching about? I don't recall that happening in my brother's PS2 version of it -- and it appears the version they're watching is the PS2 version.

I keep forgetting I painted my toenails Satin Shoes red. I look down and think, 'oh, great, -now- what have I done to- oh, _yeah_. That's right.'

The Usual Suspects has to be one of my favorite movies -ever-. Kevin Spacey as Verbal Kint is one of -the- best con artists in cinematic history, and it has Pete Postlethwaite -and- Dan Hedaya, two of the best "Hey, It's That Guy!"s to grace the screen. I really, really like it.

I watched Die Hard last night. I've been trying to watch as many Average Guy Overcomes Big Odds kinds of movies, lately, in hopes of jumpstarting some writing... Mostly Mercy and Grace, 'cause I miss those two. *Pokes at stuff* What did I do with M&G In The Big Office Building...?
Posted by: Shannon M.: 1:25 PM |

Rats -- I must have forgotten to move my M&G stuff from zipdisk to Fiach... Dammit. *Grumplegrumple* *Pokes* Although I might have it stashed in a mail account somewhere... Hmhmhm...

I still love the Hamburger Helper hand.

...I'm really only five and a half.

Greetings from beautiful downtown...nowhere.

Housesitting for my dad while he and Dory drive TransCanada1 to Niagra Falls -- part of their honeymoon.

I wish I were in Canada.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 8:15 PM |

I just looked at the bottom of the cup I've been drinking out of today. There are black sandy specks in it. Iiiiiiick. Since I have to go -aaaaall- the way back to my house for a few things I managed to forget (shampoo! Dad took his with him, so...), maybe I'll fill the billion and a half water bottles under my desk and bring them back here. I usually don't mind well-water (and dad's tastes _great_), but I heartily object to grit.

*Blinks at the TV* Ooh... Huh. Our Sisters of Providence hospital is opening a wing to care for patients with senile dementia. I was just wondering if they have any sort of therapy-dog program, and what it would take to start one if they didn't. I have -got- to call Vera's mama...
Posted by: Shannon M.: 8:26 PM |

I much prefer to play along with trivia games when I'm alone, because then if I'm wrong, I don't have to hear about it from my brother. *Snerk* Like that kept me from blurting out that 'Africa' was a single country in INTL335... *Rolls eyes* But at least I didn't flee the room afterward, mortified and certain that everyone hated me and/or thought I was dumber than a box of bricks.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 9:00 PM |

New layout, I hope. And I know I have the link to the site from which I obtained the picture, I just can't remember its name at the moment...
Posted by: Shannon M.: 10:04 PM |

*Pokes stuff* Hey. Work, you.

*Pokes again* Yo!
Posted by: Shannon M.: 10:07 PM |

Whoops. *Goes off to fix things*
Posted by: Shannon M.: 10:15 PM |

*Snicker* The Tampa Bay farm team is silly. But at least they threw a party for the people that -wanted- to see it... (Link in a sec.)
Posted by: Shannon M.: 10:29 PM |

*Eyes the sidebar* Yeah. What's wrong with -you-, my little codelet?

Rats. Can't find the story on the Tampa Bay team's thing -- the team locked fans out of the stadium so they could set the record for least fans in attendance. They did, and threw a party for the fans afterward. However, the local news didn't have the score, citing that 'no one was there' to get it.
