Grr. Bad kitty. Yasminda is lying beside my bed, being a very good and calm dog, and the cranky cat spends time alternately trying to get me to get rid of the dog and trying to get rid of her herself by smacking her on the nose. And Yasminda hasn't done -anything-! *Grumple* Poor doggy.

...Oddly, I'm thinking of changing my layout.

Yes, again. What can I say? I like variety.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 1:52 PM |

I'm freezing. It's cool and rainy out; I bought a three-dollar PC game called CyberMercs yesterday; and Ev picked up Oni and Tachyon for 9.99 each.

Yasminda is sacked out beside my bed; Jeff Corwin is messing about with highly poisonous snakes; and I love the way that Indian women dress. I'd probably look really, really silly dressed the same way.

...That's all I can think of to babble about, at the moment.

There are people that get on my nerves, _badly_. I don't know why I -insist- on bothering myself by reading what they have to say, I really don't, but I do. So I suppose I really don't have any right to complain... *Snerk* But if I don't say at least this, I'll write cranky emails and nasty comments or something, and then I'll be terribly embarrassed and grouchy.

So. I say to all of you that get on my very last nerve and don't know it: shutupshutupshutUPSHUTUP NO ONE CARES AND YOU'RE NOT ALL THAT A BAG OF CHIPS A CAN OF SODA AND A CANDY BAR, EITHER. *Ahem* There, I said it. I feel better.

Reesa -- for some reason, my browsers refuse to recognize Javascript, so... Hey! Aside from Chris Pirillo, TechTV _rocks_. Tomorrow's World is damned cool, and I used to learn a lot from Call For Help and ScreenSavers. 'S a nifty, nifty channel, and how could you -not- love Liam Mayclem, Leo Laporte, and Patrick Norton?

So, I hung out with The Kids* today -- very cool. Won major points from Natalie, the oldest, for saying that I wasn't going to babysit them because they're not babies, and therefore do not -need- to be baby-sat. The boys, Issac and Benjamin, are quite a bit younger and so need more looking after, but they're still not babies. Ev got along quite well with them, and Nat, Christina and I seemed to be doing well. I'm going to go up and get Nat and Christina on Sunday, so we can have a Girls Afternoon Out/Off/Whatever. I have no idea what we'll do; Dad wants me to take them shooting, I kind of think they may not be so excited about it. Youth Shooting Day is Saturday, so they may be all shot out by then. I have a number of other activities that we can do, though, from people-/boy-watching at a mall (or malls) to renting dumb movies and hanging out, watching them and painting our nails or gossiping or something. Christina's a little cool, yet, but I think it's mostly because she's a lot like me -- uncomfortable in a big crowd, and more interested in being apart than in the middle of everything. I think, though, that she'll warm up when we're away from everyone else.

* Not their Real Names. Ooh, just like Reader's Digest, only without the funny bits! *Snerk*

I don't ever want to feel the same way my father feels about music. However, I do have to admit to a bizarre fascination with the Greatest Easy Hits Of The Sixties collection being pushed on TV of late.

Bareback bronc riding looks -painful-. More painful than any other rodeo event, up to and including being interveiwed by Peg Tillis. *Ducks* Oh, I'm sorry. But -bull-riding looks easier than the barebacking. Yeech. *Is watching the Nat'nl Finals on ESPN*
Posted by: Shannon M.: 11:12 PM |

I'd love to hear the Japanese and Korean commentary on the World Cup games. *Grin* They have to be at -least- as interesting as the baseball commetators -- last year, Fox Sports and ESPN showed clips of the Japanese broadcasters covering Ichiro-san's plays, and they were a lot of fun to listen to.
Posted by: Shannon M.: 11:16 PM |

*Blink* I didn't know that rodeo -had- a commissioner. Huh. Learn something new every day... And, in the same vein, Peg's last name isn't Tillis. That's -Pam's- last name. Peg's is... I can't remember, but I -know- it was the same last name as a guy I went to school with.

And speaking of names, I -love- the names in Rodeo. Where else are you going to find people named things like 'Rope' and 'Branhquino' and 'Spud'? Spud. Hee. (And my ÜberGirly side demands that I inform you all that most of the people involved are also very, very, -very- cute.)
Posted by: Shannon M.: 11:21 PM |

I wonder if my new family likes rodeo? *Snicker* Wouldn't that just be the way it goes? -I- like rodeo, they prefer, I don't know, dogsledding. (Nat likes sports, I know that already. She prefers basketball primarily, though, but I can handle that.)

There's a guy in the steer wrestling named Birch. Yes, like the tree. It makes me think of a hero of a bad romance novel.

"Oh, Birch," she panted, "Do you -have- to go?"
"Yes, Dora, I'm afraid I do," Birch boomed, flexing his manly muscles and leaning down to pick up his shirt. "I'm afraid I do."
"But, Birch! Who will protect the farm while you're gone?" Dora fluttered her lashes, placing a hand over her ample, heaving bosom.
"Why, ma'am, Will will look after y'all. After all, he -is- my right-hand man." He gave Dora a charming smile at the mention of Willow Larchblom, his head ranch hand and sometimes lover. "He won't let you down, and he -definitely- won't let old man Meyers run off any of your cattle." Because he'd let it be known that Will would be rooming with the cows if he -did-, instead of his usualy cozy quarters shared with Birch.

Okay, maybe not -that- bad, the way I'd write it. Heh.

Speed. Britt. Rope. Spud. Birch. Butch. Jory. Turtle. _Turtle_, honest to Promise. Dugan. Clay. Caleb. Wade. Ah, I love the names...

I think the thing that appeals to me on a more...fundamental...level is the hats, the jeans, and the horses. Never let it be said that I didn't a ppreciate a well-fitting pair of jeans...

*Snerk* Some ninny just sent me a 'Bigger Bust In Thirty Days Or Your Money Back!' spam stating "get a bigger bust [...] and be all natural" and "...Be more comfortable in bed" Sure. Like the quality of your sleep is related to your bustline...

Whee! New Template. [/sarcasm] I'm hoping this will let me fix my comments. *Grumple*

I -think- it worked. At any rate, I was able to see the Save Changes and Cancel buttons, which was nice.

Oh, about the mood thing -- Dory and Co. are here, and they, my dad and I are all going to the zoo tomorrow. So... Cool. And eek.

*Blush* Um, yes, it -does- help to make sure you have all of the -pieces- of code pasted into one's template, now that I think of it...

Yet another entry in the 'awww, my pets are cuuuute!' ledger:

Last Thursday, I had to go down to my favorite laundromat and do some laundry. After everything was dried, I popped over to the Japanese restaurant that's just across the parking lot. I got lunch to go, and headed home. When I got home, both Yasminda and Toulouse were -very- interested in my yakitori, which I shared with them... I also tried to share my steamed rice, but every time I offered it to Yasminda, she'd put her nose in the air and turn her head from side to side, just like a baby that doesn't want the strained peas. 'Rice?' 'No. No! -No-.'

...Maybe you had to be there.

Mmm, cinnamon toast. Haven't had -that- in _ages_. I love the squishiness the butter imparts to the chewy bread, and the crunch of the sugar...yummy.

In other news, I've clicked on some random blogs, but instead of my usual Random Gay Guys, I've been hitting Random Knitting Bloggers. It's rather nifty, actually.

Why is it that Lamasil chose FFVIII music to play in the background of that annoying 'thick-like and yellow' commercial? I really don't want one of my favorite videogames associated with someone's gross toes.

Documentaries don't frighten me. Annoyingly written documentaries scare me even less. Annoyingly written documentaries annotated with minutae and miscellanea that didn't actually -add- to the story? Totally -not- scary in such a way as to make me yawn.

In short, House Of Leaves would have been far more frightening to me if it had been told from the perspective of Navy or Reston or -some-one, almost anyone. The physical layout of the book was horribly distracting to my visually-oriented little self; and I just couldn't bring myself to care about Johnny Truant beyond the fact that Danielewski wrote him as having been employed as a Spit Rat in Homer for a while. (Proving the author either did the same thing or -really- did his research, which earns him a few points.)

I don't know, maybe it's just me, or maybe it's my meds, but it just...wasn't scary. It had some good -potential-, there were a few spots wherein I could see that it was gearing up to be a good scary book, but then they flicker, sputter and fade. So if you like reading deconstructed fiction with a lot of extraneous blither, try House of Leaves. If you want something that scared the pants off me... Try any of the Year's Best Horror and Fantasy collections edited by Terry Windling and Ellen Datlow, particularly the one with the story about the girl who gets her tooth pulled, and the one with the story about the guy with AIDS that goes to... Thailand? India? Indonesia? Someplace in SE Asia. And then there was the story about the woman/girl in an apartment that listens to her neighbors have sex through the wall, and the discovery she makes when she finally gets a peek into her neighbors' home... -Those- stories creeped me out.

*Giggle* I love the 7-11 commercial with the two guys in the car... I've never had their taquitos (I don't think we -have- any more 7-11's, any more), but the commercial... Hee.

Wow. Drinking soda for the first time in a loooong time reminds me why I general don't -- it's not thirst-quenching, and carbonation and I are...not not-friends, but certainly not getting along well. Fortunately I'm at home and am not subjecting the world to the natural consequences of soda-drinking.

...That and the carbonation makes my tongue hurt.

Toulouse is a strange little kitty. We fixed her up a window perch so that she can be in the living room and out of the reach of the dog and put her single-story kitty-condo on it. She recently discovered the delight that is the quarter-sized reflection of light from my mother's watch -- she -loves- to watch it. However, when she tries to catch it, she doesn't swat at it with a paw, as she discovered that gently dabbing a foot at it wasn't all that effective. No, she tries to -bite- it. She doesn't seem to understand that she -can't-, and she also doesn't like it when the light shines on her feet. Hee.

Guh. For some reason, Opera interprets hitting the delete key as 'the user wants to go back in the page order!' that wasn't what I wanted at all, stupid thing. *Pokes*

ANYhow. I found something I wanted to share with Mari (and everyone else) -- Dreamland Creations Tattoo and Art Studio.
