Aww... *Shuffles feet* Thank you, too, Scrubby... And -you're- no slouch at saving lousy days, either. *Cheery grin* *Hug*

Hey, I'm learning to read music and play the recorder! And I'm doing fairly well at it! In fact, I'm doing well enough that I'm getting overconfident. *Snerk* But I've always wanted to learn to play an instrument, and I didn't want something predictable and ordinary, like a guitar or a violin or a piano. I wanted to learn to play the double bass, actually... It's -still- taller than I am, which I think is most of its appeal. *Rolls eyes* I know, I know, I have this weird height-fetish thing happening.... But at least a double bass doesn't have a nose. *Snicker* *Ahem*

I'm learning to play the recorder because... Well, I hadn't -expected- to be inducted into the ECA Recorder Ensemble, but I was. One of the things kids have to do in order to graduate is to teach a class. Our senior is currently running a Swordplay-and-Chivalry intensive, with a Medieval Music project on the side. Kids are researching ancient cultures (Romans, Celts, Normans/Franco-whoevers... Gauls, maybe?, etc.), making their own medieval weaponry out of PVC pipe and foam-rubber pipe insulation, and learning to play the recorder.

I am not in the SnC intensive (I'm taking knitting again -- I -finally- finished my hat! And I'm gonna start on a sweater tomorrow!), but it doesn't matter -- -everyone- is in the Ensemble. Gail even has a gig lined up for us! I'm really enjoying being able to take music again. I've really missed making music as part of a group... One Messiah performance a year is not quite enough for me.

The worst part about playing the recorder? The way it stops playing when too much condensation gets built up inside it. Well, that and not being able to hear yourself with ten other people trying to practice in the same room with you.
